Rolling Rough Quad Bike Day 2011
Sunday the 20th November 2011 saw about 60 people who normally depend on the wheels of their wheelchairs for mobility, have the opportunity of trying wheels of a different kind when they test-drove a range of quad bikes, Side by Sides and buggies at the Rolling Rough day at Rhino Park near Rayton.
The event was planned and organised by Occupational Therapist, Caroline Rule, owner of Rolling Rehab, with the help of Nastassja Stander from the Gauteng North branch of the QuadPara Association, and Kobus Visser from Echo Powersport. They saw this as an opportunity to enable people with mobility impairments to discover a new mobility device which can take them to places that their wheelchairs cannot go.
A key to the whole day was being able to fit the portable Easy Rider hand controls to these vehicles so that they could be driven without the use of their legs.
The event was very well supported by the side by side guys – Kobus from Echo 4×4 brought along his Commanders, Bruce from Polaris SA assisted with a Ranger Crew, Ari Serilis from QASA brought along his RZR and Christo from Hisun brought their Rocky range along.
The off-road car guys were also there in force – Ben from Executive Toys brought along his Hajadu’s, Michael from Sportsride and PGO arrived with their Bug racers – and UTV racing had some of their race cars on display.
