 This was an interactive 2-day workshop providing the opportunity to interact with the users of diverse adaptive equipment and for attendees to drive various adapted vehicles to gain a deeper understanding of what is involved when driving with adaptations. Adaptive solutions for drivers with physical disabilities.

Presented by Caroline Rule (B.Sc OT)

This was an interactive workshop held in collaboration with the QuadPara Association and their Driving Ambitions project.    It included the assessment of drivers with physical disabilities looking at it from a needs analysis approach.   Attendees will be given an opportunity to drive a variety of adapted vehicles in order to gain a deeper understanding of what is involved when driving with adaptations.

Medical Fitness to Drive; the law, the science, and the limitations, with reference to the SASOM Driver Fitness Guidelines.

Having a sound understanding of the medical requirements for driving is essential for any medical or allied medical practitioner when they are asked the question by their patients if they are allowed to drive.  This workshop will unravel the mysteries around the legal requirements and guidelines of putting patients back on the road and it will provide the practitioner with tools to minimize the risks of making these decisions.
